Great video! I’m taking the westbound Canadian, in May from Toronto to Vancouver with both of my parents. I’m flying in from Minneapolis to Toronto and spending a week in Toronto and Montreal. They are going to be taking the Amtrak in from Minnesota connecting over to Toronto to meet up with me. Where we will board the Canadian together for the ride over to Vancouver. Thanks for the preview, I’m excited. It’s getting much closer to my departure on the Canadian.

Great video and nice you could do the trip with your Dad. It was always a bucket list trip for my wife and I when we retired but she passed away before we got the chance. I'm doing the Edmonton to Toronto portion over Christmas this year solo to check it off the list. I board on Christmas eve. I would have liked to do the full trip from Vancouver but I'm living in Edmonton and couldn't justify the airfare at both ends of the trip.

Yeah, I am not sure I appreciate the formal signature of this mansion with its wood cladded, uneven low pitched roofline and repetition of cheap apartment complex doors. Maybe it's the tone deaf brown/turquoise combo throwing me off, as well. At any rate, it sends me serious "McMansion made love to a countryside train station and had a son" vibes. Except the train will never arrive at destination since there is no railways. The portico isn't even centered with what should be the middle unit, as the axial plan is further disrupted by a separate block on the left =/ To each his own, but on my part, I don't have a difficult time to understand why few people want business with it 🤷

As of May 2023 it is boarded up and has no way of entry and the government has given the protpery to "Caldwell Indians". The lawn is still maintain bit there is nothing being done to it, and probably wont.

RIP Hottub and pool. I first went in December 2014 so I missed out on that stuff, but its a pool so who really cares. I also had NO clue that it used to have a sauna.

Very nice video! Fall in PA is absolutely awesome! I drove the PA TPK often when I lived in Ohio, and my parents were in NJ. An aerial view of the abandoned turnpike section and tunnels provides a perspective you just can’t get from ground level. I particularly enjoyed the longer stretches where you flew along the roadway. I agree about your hesitancy to fly the tunnel. My concern would not be lack of GPS, but I’d certainly change several settings. I’d turn off RTH, because I don’t want it to rise to any altitude on loss of signal. Also, in the tunnel it has no GPS, so it doesn’t know where it is, and can’t figure out what course to fly. My main concern would be magnetic interference from metal structures, even rebar in concrete. Flying a drone without GPS is not that big a deal; I had a GPS drone (Hubsan 502) where I could turn-off the GPS. The big difference is that you have to manually correct for drift from winds, which can be quite a challenge in gusty winds. However, movement of air in the tunnel, would be much less. I don’t know which drone you have, but I’d run the idea past a newsgroup/forum of people familiar with it. Again, great video!

Agree 100% that a great roof on a building will do a good job of preseving everything beneath it. On the other hand if you ever see an old building with a hole in the roof, it is not for from ruin.

I'm going to warn you now, do not go there or the black bridge at night. A friend of mine was legit possessed and vomited. I've also been told other stories that would make your skin crawl. Completely different place at night.

At the time of this video my mom worked at the hotel and I lived in that big brick house right beside the tunnel!! Crazy

My favorite trip was my very first trip on March 20th 2013. I loved seeing your photos and video. I used a Canon T3i for my stills and some video. but most of my videos I used my Canon Vixia R300 camcorder. Ypur videos brought back some great memories because you caught angles and shots I didnt take. So it just added to my original first two trips.

I was there twice in 2013. March 20th 2013 (It was the first day of Spring and there was still snow on the ground. It was a side trip to find it before heading to Meyetsfale for the Pennsylvania Maple Festival. The 2nd trip was on October 21st, 2013. Just my nephew and I that time. Ypu can find my trips on my channel.

Great video. I find going in early Soring before all the leaves grow 9n the trees gives it a much more open feel and less congested. It feels more like the photos and videos you see when the Turnpike was new and just opened.

At 43:43 min. That Graffiti has been up there somehow at least since 2005, I saw a Penn Lines magazine from 2--5 that had Sideling Hill on the cover and that graffiti is on there. But the resy of the tunnel in the photo didn't look that bad,

Mmmmm. My nephew and I were there October 21st 2013/ It was our 2nd trip there. What day where you tyhere? I agree they have waited way to long to repave one side of the roadway/ One of the original ideas was to relight the tunnels with solar powered lights. Also rebuild the service plaza and charge a small toll for people to use ut and the tolls would be used for upleep of the Abandoned Turnpike. It's neen 29 years now and all they do is retape a new copy of the rules to the concrete road dividers as old ones wear out, I've been there 5 times and it keeps looking worse every time. It makes me sad. Learbed about it in 2006. studied up on it for a few years and finally made my first trip on March 20th, 2013.
